Default Antique quilt 'rescued' and quilted

    Hey Y'all,
I just finished quilting this one for a friend. It was found among her MIL's things, made by her hubby's favorite aunt ages ago. The sunbonnets appear to be made from old hankies, and the dresses are either old clothing or flour sacks. The girls were all quilted - but then attached to the background fabric which is a heavy but soft almost canvas/denim weight. I just FMQ around each of the girls and added a little flower motif at the intersection of each block. Not sure what kind of batting was used - but it is heavy and feels dense, likely an old blanket. The quilting really sinks into it & doesn't show. First time I've ever tackled a job like this - and happy to say it went smoothly. Got it all quilted & done in one afternoon. =)
    Enjoy!

That is lovely. I"m so glad you got it finished. I used to make SBS quilts. They were a joy to make. Granddtrs were small then.

So pretty! Embroidered hankies -- that's so amazing! Do you have any before pictures? This is definitely a treasure. It only needed quilting? Lucky! Good job!

The embroidery on the bonnets are wonderful. So nice of you to do this for them.

Don't mean to offend anyone, but I have to be honest and say in my opinion it deserves more quilting in the blank area's.

What a nice Sunbonnet Sue quilt. Definitely old fashioned, which brings back memories of when I first started quilting several decades ago. Very nice.

Honestly, I thought so too, but the owner only wanted me to outline the Sunbonnet Girls and I added the flower motifs at the intersection of each block...so that's what I did. I would have loved to add more quilting - but I noticed the quilting I did really disappeared into the fabric. So i might have been a waste of time & effort. But the own is happy - so I'm happy.
    =)
