    I think in the pictures of both those quilts, though, the star is actually a LeMoyne, not the the HST block cheater version - basically a Sawtooth - as shown on Quiltercache.

    Not there's anything wrong with it. ;-)

    But it would make a difference in how those petals are placed and would look using the star as the background.

    I'd never seen this block before. Thanks for posting it.

    Both are lovely vintage family quilts.

    I made one of these blocks while taking a sampler quilt class. Although mine did not seem to lay flat individually (I decided not to use it in my quilt), my mom liked it, so I put it into a lap quilt for her, it laid totally flat when in a quilt.

    My book stated it's called the Three Dimensional Dahlia.

    I made one of these blocks as a "swap" block. It makes a beautiful quilt! Might ought to make a few more blocks! LOL!
