Hey girl! They look good to me. Just finish them out all the same and don't worry about it. Next time you'll do it another way. They are pretty. You will be the only one who sees it and just keep your mouth shut.

For some reason my mind would not wrap around

OMG I can't tell you how many times I've done something similar. That is why they say a seam ripper is a quilters best friend. Hang in there, they really are easy to do, just organize your strips.

A friend told me a really helpful hint for log cabin blocks. As you start sewing strips onto the small center square, just remember...dark strip, dark strip. The next two would be light strip, light strip. Hope this makes sense and helps.

The third piece should have been sown on the left of your first two ( as I see them in the picture, where the brown is), then continue clock wise, using two lights then two darks. The third piece should be the same family as the second, then change to next family. Is this clear as mud?
You could also do the third one ythe same way you did the first two and use them like that
