    Default Appliqued Sue Bonnet Blocks

I purchased some Sue Bonnet blocks a few years ago on ebay however they are only ironed on and I know they should probably be held down with an applique stitch. I am using reproduction fabrics for the sashing and borders and will most likely send it off to get professionally quilted. Will the blocks be ok with out stitching them down, will the quilting be enough or do I need to stitch around everything. The sewing machine is a little difficult to do so I'm just wondering. Forgive me for the terrible picture. I'm hoping quilting the blocks will be sufficient

Adorable blocks. I always sew around my appliqué blocks with either zig zag or satin stitch. IMHO I don't think just the iron on is secure enough and the edges may fray or curl up on places the quilting doesn't hit.

Adorable Sunbonnet Sue!! I have done colorful cats and Dresden Plate patterns and I did a small zig-zag stitch around the edges that will hold them in place very well. It was very small and close together almost like a button hole, but not noticeable. You have a nice plan for the quilt.

Cute blocks but what kind of fusible was used? If the appliqués feel kind of crispy and hard, it was probably regular Heat And Bond. If that is the case, it is not meant to be sewn. If another fusible was used it would depend on if it is to be a wallhanging, runner or quilt. A wallhanging or runner will get less washing and should be fine. A quilt, I would probably stitch the appliqué edges down.

be sure and tell the Long arm quilter that you don't know what fusible was used on the Sue blocks. she or he will need to test some sewing and see if all goes well. Cute blocks!!

On my three Dresden plate quilts I found they are more to my liking being sewn down like on MSQC site.

very nice blocks. I'm not very familiar with the fusible method but would nevertheless recommand you to stitch the block in any way, just to be sure

You need to stitch all around......I usually do all the blocks 1 at a time before sewing all the blocks together, makes it easier to move around.....Why pay to have it LA and then have the pieces pop up eventually which they will......Want the quilt to look nice after the 1st.washing.........
