I started with a picture of the fairy, used a grid and enlarged it on paper making what they call a cartoon of the picture. Then I laid freezer paper over the cartoon and cut out the pieces, ironed the freezer paper on the fabric and cut it out. I used various methods to applique the pieces on a painted background. The fairy is hand appliqued and the rocks, leaves and flowers are machine appliqued. The face was painted also. I would suggest starting with a baby quilt size and moving up from there. I get inspiration from books, posters and any artwork that catches my eye really.

Both of the pics are awesome! I am working on my first piece and will post a pic when done. I took a workshop a few weeks and got so much out of it.

This quilt was made by following instructions in the book "Ghost Layers and Color Washes" by Katie Pasquini Masopust. Lots of freezer paper cut out and used for templates for the whole thing.

Whoa, whoa! Another great looking project. I love this one but would never attempt it without years of practice, practice, practice, especially since I don't like curves.

I love the fairy quilt-she just radiates joy and peace and makes me want to go wading and dance in the sunshine!
