Then I found this pattern, and the deal was done! The pattern was a little intimidating at first, but turned out to be not all that hard to put together--just kind of tedious. But I love the way it came out. It's a generous-sized lap quilt, and I just stiched in the ditch to quilt it. Pretty easy, actually, for a result I'm pretty pleased with!

 Sorry about the "dumb" question: Does a jelly roll always have the same number of strips? Bottom line is: how many strips do I need for this quilt top?
NO question is a dumb question!!! If we don't know something, this is the place to ask, because someone will have the answer.
Especially if you are new to quilting. I have sewn for 50 years, but quilting is different, I always have questions.

As far as I know the jelly rolls you buy at quilt stores all have 40 strips. The ones at Joann's don't. You need 40 jelly roll strips to make this quilt.
Thanks! Hmm, does JoAnn's make their own jelly rolls? When I go there, I'm usually on a mission and don't really look around. I go with a list and stick to it. I've never bought the jelly rolls, charm packs, etc.

Here's a direct link to the designer's website. It basically just shows the fron and back of the pattern diredtions. Don't know where you can buy it, but I'm sure you could contact her directly.

I think this quilt be be gorgeous in florals, with any kind of a background fabric you wanted--black, white, pink, green--don't think it really matters!
