Okay it's my first and not my last. I'm okay with how it turned out but still would like better stitching. Started with the left leaf with smaller stitiches, but it seemed to want to shred so I went bigger. I guess the next one I will have to use stablizer or something like that. Just wanted to share.

Did you turn your edges under? The bigger stitches look better than the smaller ones.

I'm going to do turn needle on the next one, this one is just as is. I might get better results with that.

I practice on scraps until I get the setting I want then write it with a fine point Sharpie right on my machine. That way I can switch to a straight stitch if I need to then go back to the blanket stitch. The Sharpie marking will come off whenever I decide to take them off with a paper towel and rubbing alcohol.

    BTW, your applique looks fine.

You did good. I used stabiliser on the one I did and bigger stitched. I had to use small stitches on a small piece and I did the much closer then. But your's is good. I'm still learning too :)

Try a sample using different sitich length and width. I like a long length and closer width.
Applique is really easy. I don't know why everyone thinks it is so hard. Just relax and start. Don't be afraid to try.
You do need to secure your applique piece to the fabric on the bottom, use wonder under or some other product.

Thanks for the tips everyone, it's the first time for me by hand. I'm still working up the courage to try it on the sewing machine.
