Auditioning Fabrics
I entered a swap where I have to find a quilt block that represent Minnesota. I got a book that had quilt blocks inspired from Laura Ingalls Wilder and the Little House on the Prairie Books. So I chose Prairie Queen and couldn't figure out what fabrics to choose. I decided to print my fabric choices on paper and decide if I liked the layout. Here is the first block that I put together. I did not like some aspects of it, so continued to tweak it. Once I have a real block, I'll post again

It seems like the top 4-patch should have the blues upper left and lower right like the other 4-patches. That will create a secondary pattern. But I do like the choice of fabrics. Do you know what palate the rest of the swap is using?

We went to Minnesota several years ago. When I think of it now I remember the gorgeous stately pines with streams and lakes all over the state (we were north of Minneapolis). And moose and fish. A truly gorgeous state-but sadly too cold for me-Ohio is about as far COLD as I can be.

I realized that the bottom 4 patch is oriented the wrong way. I will have to make sure that I have the block oriented correctly before sewing. Sandy - I looked at moose and pine fabric but I thought it was 'too manly' for a 'Prairie Queen block'. Ruth Swappers will make blocks that describe each of the 50 states, each will swapper will decide their colorway.
