There is a book called ( Attic Windows quilts) that teaches the technique, - this one I made up as I went along, first choosing fabrics I liked for in the windows, then I started hanging window frame options around pieces, hubby came home- vetoed my choices, pulled out the grays & decided those worked . window frames just need contrast, light, dark; medium dark; ligh5, medium.... What ever you like & mitered corners. After I put the windows together hubby went to the quilt shop with me to choose the border fabric, he was sure I'd get the wrong one. Again, we auditioned many before choosing the one I used.
