    It seems to be a non-sewers rule...If you sew; therefore you mend. I do it but it is not my favourite thing.

    Thanks for the comments. I use the woven cat food bags, I cut 2-3 inch strips from the bottom (or top depending on the design) and fold these in thirds the long way, top stich them, and sew them about 3 inches in and 2 inches down from the top. (I turn under about 3/4 inch on the top for a nice finished edge, before I sew on the handles.) Then i sew the bottom shut and make the triangle?? on the bottom by sewing in 2 inches, that way it has a nice flat bottom. They are great and they hold tons of stuff, I always get lots of looks and comments when I use them!!
