Background for an Octagon
This is a rough drawing of the pattern shape.......these are the 3 angles; they add up to 180-degrees, which is what the angles of a triangle add up to.

Below are the three angles, just represented in pairs of lines; if you printed them out and extended the two lines in each of the angles... it would give you a *pattern* for the 3 corners of the triangles. The length of the 3 sides could be adjusted to fit the quilt you are looking at; I hope this makes sense... I dont have any control over how large the angle-pictures show up... but internet email would....
