it is machine quilted, and machine pieced, only the wool applique is hand work, i button-hole stitched (most) of the pieces, stem stitched where i thought i needed to. this was my first adventure into wool hand work outside of rug hooking...I LOVE WORKING WITH WOOL! :D
i do not use fusable on my wool, tried it once, did not like the result. I use freezer paper to cut out my shapes, then as each piece is placed to be stitched i use a small straight pin or just hold it. the first block took awhile but after that block it really went pretty fast when i worked on it, i could get a lot done in a 15 minute sitting. I used the same black flannel on the back and a black cotton batt, black thread.
i am entering it in the quilt show this year (our local guild hosts one every other year and this is the year) i put it in the fair last summer (finished it just in time) and it won a blue ribbon plus the viewer's choice award, i was really surprised!
