I am so glad you all enjoyed the Baltimore Album quilts. It was my pleasure to share them with you. I try never to miss the opportunity to see quilts, whether at a museum or a quilt show.

I was fortunate to see several awesome antique and new quilt exhibits while we were stationed in DC. I saw the Gees Bend quilts at the Corcoran Gallery of Art and other special quilt exhibits at the National Museum of American History, the DAR Museum and the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Unfortunately, cameras were not allowed at any of these exhibits.

I work in Baltimore and D.C.

I haven't tried the needle turn applique. Truthfully, I don't think I have the patience for it. I imagine those quilts tooks years to make.
Watch the paper for quilt exhibits-you are in a great location. Also, check out the Sully Quilt Show the first Sunday in Sept at Sully Plantation (not far from Dulles airport). In June the Quilter's Unlimited Show is at the Dulles Expo Center in Chantilly. Both are worth the drive.

Yes, they are both applique and embroidery. But the embroidery is only stems, french knots, etc. Even the tiniest berries you see are applique!! It was amazing! Wish I was a better photographer-I did not do the quilts justice!

I've had one attempt at needle turn applique, still working on it will have to post the block when it's done.
I would love to experience seeing an original in front of me. You are so lucky to have been in the right place at the right time.
Many thanks for sharing these wonderful quilt pictures.

I was VERY lucky :D It was truly amazing. My friends and I were "OMG, look at this", "You HAVE to see this", "Come over here and see this". We were there for hours and wanted to stay longer. It left us speechless on the way home!!! A very satisfying day.
