The Barn Chicks
#73
The chicks are all original based on chicken shapes from a pattern called "Hip Chicks" (I think there was a similar pattern in a magazine at one time too). It is an easy shape to draw and the chicken blocks are about 8" x 12" in size. We kept with the black and white body shape and then each lady improvised with the rest of the design so they all came out different. I have had the hay fabric for many years and have no idea where you could get more of that but you may be able to come up with a grass type fabric or just use gold fabric and add stitching to it to make it look more like straw - just an idea. The wood framing is a batik fabric that I found at eQuilter about a year ago - however there are lots of wood type fabrics out there that I think would work just as well. The black roof boards also came from eQuilter but I have seen some other roof shingles that I think would work well.

If this doesn't look good on your walls, I'll be happy to put it on mine (giggling) How very cute. Thanks so much. It made me smile. big hugs

Here is my Barn Chicks wall hanging (before putting on the binding). The chicks were a block exchange with a few members of my quilting group and putting them in a barn was my own idea - each lady named her chick so I added their names to the quilt too. While I wasn't real happy about doing this exchange - I love the way it turned out. Now I just need to find a place to hang it in my home!
