I thought I'd start a thread on a new quilt I'm starting which is going to be a cathedral window pattern in batiks. This is my first time working with batiks, so will be something new for me. My individual blocks will be 4", so this will be a longer term project for me. I'm hoping having a progress thread will help me stay focused to complete it. :)

For the frame fabric, I decided to use a gray batik that has a greenish tint to it as well. I wanted something that looked like the lead in a real window with the green patina to it as well, so this looked pretty good to me. For the glass fabrics, I wanted some colors that were deep and rich looking as well as some lights that looked like glass. I think these look pretty good for that.

Wish me luck! I'll be posting progress pics as things move along. :D

Fabulous! Batiks are my favorite, so will be interested in seeing your progress. Good luck - I think cathedral window is challenging.

Eddie, those fabrics are beautiful. I am anxious to start a quilt with Batiks...they are such beautiful fabrics. And I like the cathedral window pattern as well. Can't wait to see your pictures, your turn-around time seems to be over the top!

That's going to be very interesting. I've been wondering why people always use white as the framing fabric, though I was thinking in terms of a sandy-colored batik to represent cathedral walls. I like your color choice - it can represent either stone walls or the glass leading, as you plan it to.

I have a feeling it's going to be an awesome quilt!
