Black binding instead of red...

When I took my very first quilting class, the teacher said the binding is the picture frame and it should act as an ending or frame to the quilt/picture. If you had used red, it would look as though there was more to come.
She also warned against using a very light binding unless the entire quilt was primarily light. In this case, she suggested selecting the darkest of the light fabric for the binding. White binding was a "no-no".
