    If you're not quite up to trying the OBW pattern, I would suggest trying the Four Patch Posie pattern first. It's much the same preparation you only are using squares. It makes for a nice outcome. After doing the 4 patch you'll then feel like you can tackle the OBW.

    This is great advice - then you only need four repeats and can make something fairly small and manageable, plus you'll get the principle of layering and cutting. But for OBW I would strongle recommend woring from one of the Maxine Rosenthal books - the design process is as important as the contruction technique and you need the tips and advice in the book.
