Two women who live up the hill from me (they are a couple) both have breast cancer. They were diagnosed within a month of each other. Since they have to travel for treatments, the community held a fund raiser to help them out. One of the things we did was a silent auction. My intent was to donate this tote bag for the auction, but I didn't finish in time, so now I'm not sure what to do with it. I just might keep it. By the way, we raised $9000 for them
I found single block squares for the ribbon and the heart, made them 12" each and used the tote bag pattern from our mystery tote last October to turn the squares into a bag.

One side is a ribbon...

Could you make a second bag and give them to the ladies as gifts? Surely they take stuff with them to have their treatments, and it would be a wonderful reminder of the community who loves them so much...
Just a thought.
Edited to add -- the bag is beautiful.

I don't think I can get any more of the breast cancer awareness fabric. I do like the idea of giving it to the girls, though. Maybe I'll put some goodies inside and give it to them as a couple and let them decide who carries it. In fact, that's exactly what I'll do.

Thats a great idea..to give it to them. Hopefully the treatment will work for them both, what a horrible ordeal they have to go through...each worrying about the other at the same time and the treatments...sheesh...glad people like you care enough and are there for them.
