Some times quilts have their own time table. I once made a quilt for my DH for our 25th wedding anniversary - he picked the pattern and 2 of the fabrics. I used a butterfly print with teal and black as the third fabric for the kaliedoscope quilt. Never again, with all those bias edges, the quilt was difficult to say the least. I did manage to get the top pieced, tried for a pieced border, messed up, spent 2 days ripping the pieced border out; then because we were having a family reunion, the quilt got put away. Finally, 5 years later, I added a black border, and did a large cable in the border; so he got it for our 30th wedding anniversary.
