    I stitched right on top of the buttonhole stitching with the monofilament. I also clipped the corners with sharp scissors and frayed the edges by pulling the threads. I wanted it to look uniform so I took the extra time to do it that way. After they are frayed -- sometimes -- you have to give it a little bit of a haircut. Then it's perfect :-)
