I made a scrappy bargello with fat quarters for my sister's 6yr old GS. It had 20 fabrics and one had butterflies. I am glad he wasn't picky about butterflies, because he fell in love with it/or I was just lucky.

i wouldn't put butterflies on it either, what about leaves, or other small animals.

Even though it is beautiful fabric, I'd leave it out. Too girly.

I have three grandsons aged 6-10 and I can readily agree with so many others that the butterflies would be better suited for a girl's quilt. Love the dinosaurs, though!

Maybe you could do one butterfly on the back of the quilt just to let it show that you made it. It could be like your signature piece!
Most boys to my thinking would not be impressed with too many butterflies on their quilt. Although I am thinking about making my 8 yr. old grandson a bug jar quilt and it was okay with him to have a butterfly jar on it. Haven't got the fabrics yet so we will see if we have a jar of butterflies or not.
Your dinosaur quilt is going to be really great!

Why don't you ask your great nephew if HE likes butterflies. If it is a surprise, mention other things as well so he will not know what you are doing.
