Yes, I did use the fusible grid, and that made it very easy. After you have finally decided that the arrangement of 2 inch squares is the way you want it, you just iron them onto the grid and sew horizontal and vertical seams. It was much faster than I thought it would be.

That was exactly my fear! I had to cover the squares on the grid with a big bath towel while I was trying to decide how to place them, so my Ophelia (Maine Coon) wouldn't sent them flying every time I walked away. She thinks her job is to lay on any piece of fabric left on the table. The towel on the top really helped to keep the unironed pieces in place while she lazed on it. You just have to remove the towel slowly so it doesn't take some squares with it. When I was ready to iron, I used a small ironing pad (bought at Hancock's to slip under sections of the grid while I was ironing. That way I didn't have to move all the pieces to an ironing board. Miss Ophelia was never able to rearrange the squares, and she has yet to forgive me for that.
