You are right, love to sew. I had a mess of scrappy 4-patches hanging about. The quilt was actually inspired from one that I saw here some years ago. I wish I could credit the original quilt, but I've long since lost the post. There were no instructions; I just fell in love with the idea and sketched it out.
There are two size stars. The little 9-patch stars are made from 2" pieces and the larger 9-patch stars are made from the 4-patches with a solid 4"square in the center. I made the stars first and then built around them on the design wall. I filled in with odd 2"squares here and there to make it all work. Easy if you build the quilt in sections and work from your grid paper sketch. It's like a big fun puzzle.

Hard to say. Not long at all, once I had finalized my plan. I already had a bunch of pre-sewn 4-patches made from scraps through the years. The quilt top sat around for a long time after I finished piecing, so my memory of the timeline is kind of skewed.
