Well--if you want the florals to be the skinny side--you can do it that way.

I don't mind why questions...unless it's from my kids.

By ending with the dark row you'll be making a whole new design and what's not to love about that? As long as you've got your beautiful fabrics, your wonderful technique, you'll end up with a tremendously glorious quilt!
Oh, man! It's getting quite sticky in here, isn't it? But it's all meant very sincerely!

If I am seeing this correctly, the big difference is that you are STARTING with a floral square in the middle and the using the narrrow lights and then the regular florals. Did I get it right? I will have to try this myself. I don't have any of the drawing programs either! :?

I don't get what the difference is -- too much a beginner still.

I just wanted to let you know that you can do this in Windows Paint. Just hit Print Screen and paste this into Paint. Select just the block, select File --> New, paste just the block into that.

You can use the line tool to change the lines. Use the eraser as needed. (There's also an Edit __> Undo option.) To color in sections, select the color from the palette in lower left and use the paint bucket to apply it.

Once you have the block the way you want it, just copy/paste all over the screen to make the quilt look. Use the Image menu's Flip/Rotate to turn it.

I kind of like it the second way too, I think the flowers might even show more, but of course no way to tell until a bunch of blocks are together.

The main difference I see is that more of the quilt will be made of the darker fabrics. If I counted right, the old style had about 16.5 square inches of light and the new one has only 14. The block altogether has 49 square inches, so it was more dark than light already. That is neither good nor bad, just an observation, something to think about. I put your new design in EQ6 and made a simple quilt design (just 6 blocks square) so you can see the amount of dark vs. light more clearly.
