Mo, Star Quilt Company has a tutorial on utube I believe it is the same block. just with different fabrics. it is a star block. you can check it out she shows how to cut the strips and sew them with out the y seams.

This is the block, but done with only 2 colors not 5. But it does give the basic layout.

Many thanks for all your replies and the links. I didn't paper piece my block or use any pesky Y seams. I did 'sew and flip' corners to add the triangles at the end of each strip. A little wasteful as regards the 8 little waste triangles you get but it makes it a very easy block to piece.

Love your colour choices! Will your full quilt be these colours?

The Woven Star paper piece isn't exactly the same. The border (pieces 2 and 3) are added. To make the block as DorisMary did, just make the section 1,2,3 all one piece.

This is a fun and easy pattern. I have been working on one in red white and blue. I have the pattern in a book called Amazingly Simple Star Quilts. It is called Woven Stars by designer Julie Weaver.

Beautiful block, I did not see any y seams.
