Default Carpenters star with scrappy string blocks

I'm finishing up the binding on this one, it's a wedding gift for grandson Justin Carpenter and his bride to be, Donna. I had decided that I wanted to make a Carpenter's Star, but I wanted a queen size and didn't want to make just one big star. I'd been making the string blocks on and off to keep the scraps under control (don't ask if I've made much of a dent ) I slapped the star block, it measures 36", up on my design wall with some of the string blocks and liked the look. I thought, woo-hoo, I've got this quilt almost finished, NOT! I had about 30 string blocks, I think I ended up with 126. It would have been a lot faster and easier to make the big star.

Great combination - really sets off the star. Not a combo I would come up with on my own. Great thinking outside the box - you've got my brain cells ticking.

A single big star might have been faster & easier, but not nearly as beautiful!!!!
