I think just a binding in the lightest fabric would set off the darker hues

Wow - that is just gorgeous! A great mix of blues with light & movement to them...great job. I would think almost any of the fabrics would make a great border(s), so just lay some out and see what strikes you. :D

    Sigh.
    I always do.

Look how great the lightest lights look right next to the dark squares on that center diagonal. They're GLOWING.

I think a nice wide dark border will just make the whole center sparkle. It's like midnight.

However, conversely, if you used the lightest light on the border, you'd get a whole North Pole frigid feel to it. Which could be very interesting.

So either extreme, not some value in the middle because that would just muddle the whole quilt. One border. Wide.

    And matching, not contrasting, binding.

    imnsho. ;-) ;)
I agree with all! Your quilt is fabulous. I just love the contrasting darks and lights. I might even be tempted to audition a beautiful larger floral if I could find one in all or mostly blues. It probably doesn't exist - I always dream up the perfect fabric, and then when I go shopping I can't find it. Guess I need to become a fabric designer.
The quilt in my avatar has a blue floral border on it. It was the perfect border for my quilt. I think you might like it on yours too. If you can find just a blue and white floral you should try it first! Lay it out and see!
Your avatar is gorgeous!!! I love the idea of the floral, but the guy that it's for....ummmm.....I better not put floral on this one!

do you have a favorite blue print in yardage that you can use as an outer border?

did you consider piano keys or a braid?

this is a great top, depending on what size you want it could be finished as is. JMHO- cw
:) I've actually considered piano keys and have not ruled that out!! I love all of the suggestions and will surely post when it's all done!!
