A marbled fabric, or some kind of tone on tone swirlys?

I think I read in an applique book about highlighting eyes with a white permanent marker - like putting a little arc or sparkle in the eyes. Not much, just enough to make them come alive. I've never done this, however, and can't remember what book I read it in, so it could have been in a quilting dream.

Those are cute kitties :) Have you thought about maybe making a scrappy border with the coordinating fabrics of the kitties? That might give it that certain something it needs.

They look so sad to me. Maybe turn up the mouth a little?

They are really cute! I love their expressions. They crack me up! Like, did you find that hair ball I left in your underwear drawer? Hack, hack... I wouldn't change them at all. Those cats have character!

You need to add a little mousie in your border & then a couple stitches onto their mouths to make them smile at the thought of catching it....

I think they are fine the way they are because they are primitive (which I LOVE). I even like the idea of whatver is the background you have in the pic being the sashing??? Some white hightlights in the eyes is not a bad idea... (Not that the other ideas are bad - not by a long shot!!) I like them as they are...
