    Default A change of color

I have this paper piecing pattern (on the right) called Agave Garden by Judy Niemeyer. I like the pattern though I'm not keen on the colors. I decided that I'll use it for a Patriotic wall hanging for my niece. Her husband is an Army Ranger and when I asked what type of quilt she wanted, she said like the Patriotic one I already did for myself and she wanted to hang it up. I've been playing with designs and I'm just not into doing the same type of thing again.

I have lots of patriotic colored fabrics and she says she likes the old-fashioned type of colors, muted and old looking, not bright red/white/blue so I won't even need to buy fabric.

I'll have to see actual scale when it's done and whether the stars look right. It's 70"x70" so that blank space is pretty big. It may be able to hold something more.

to me, the left one looks like fireworks. the right one reminds me more of a garden. if they were for me, i'd love either one.

I wouldn't add a thing to the red white and blue one, it is fabulous.

If the stars aren't large enough, could you applique or quilt eagles in that space?

Ha! I've been looking at eagles as a possibility in the two upper parts, facing each other. Also tried out five smaller stars lined up with the spikes like they're shooting out. I came across some fabric that has round Army medallions that are about 3" that could go in the middle between two stars or in the space in the pieced border, middle top/bottom/sides.

I like your patriotic take on the pattern. It does look like a large fireworks star or a large rocket burst as in .... the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air ....Not sure if the wording is correct because I don't sing your national anthem.
