Thank you everyone who posted, if it inspires you to do something similar with your quilt groups, go forth and do something similar for a good cause in your area. It is truly rewarding.

Lesley what a beautiful story and a wonderful quilt. And what a fantastic amount of money you raised - it's pretty rural where you are isn't it? Which makes it even more impressive! :D BTW - which one are you in the pic? I love to know what boarders look like! :D

[quote=Loretta]This is an amazing quilt. I love the Dovecot block the best. Your charity work is so wonderful- and what a huge amount you got from this! I would love to meet your group of quilters! Such talent![/quote
You would be very welcome if you ever get here, I have a spare bedroom for visitors.
That one got in the quilt under 'Birdhouse'! Some of our members were wanting to branch out a bit from basic houses.
Sligo is designated as a city, but truly is more of a town, with a population of about 23,000. The second largest town in the County of Sligo has only about 6,000 in it, so you can see we are not all that overpopulated. The whole of Ireland (Not counting Northern Ireland) has just over 4 million people. Coming from the UK, where there are 60 million, you can imagine my reaction - at times it seems really sparsly populated. My nearest neighbours are almost half a mile away, and I can't see another house from any of my windows.]

LaceLady - amazing quilt, and thank you for the story. It isn't fair to make someone cry while reading at work! Each block is so precious, and your quiliting of houses in sashings, cornerstones and borders was inspired! And how wonderful you remade the bag for the winner to have a small quilt for herself since she so unselfishly donated her big one. I think the story is what makes a quilt great - and your's certainly is! The calendar sales should do well. I wouldn't mind one myself - I doubt they will be easy to get in the US though. Too bad!

Thank you for the post, this is love. Thanks for the "story" behind the design. I am raising an autistic grand daughter. To me the a light house is a ray of hope and the assurance that someone is watching over our special needs people, and yes a light house did have facilities for people to live there, especially in very rural places. Check out info on Alaska light houses.
