To add more to the Salvation Army story -
Our guild makes comfort quilts to go with stuffed animals and we adapt the quilt size to the size and type of the animal...and annually we donate them to several organizations in town who work with children in distress...Salvation Army being one of them. Our donations are made at an annual Teddy Bear Tea, which is fun. At one of the charities the quilts, with animals attached, are all hung on the wall and the child can pick the one they want.
This is a great way to use up orphan blocks, use the multitude of panels that are on the market, try new techniques in small quilts, etc. We've been doing this for over 10 years and for each of the last couple of years we've donated about 1000.
