    I also use a walking foot. My machines give me the best result when I stabilize the edge of the quilt front with a zigzag or even a long basting stitch AND leave the excess batting and backing in place until the binding is stitched on the front. Trimming is then easy-peasy.

    I use the same method as bearisgray. Not really stretching but not allowing any slack either.
