Chrysanthoscopes!

No, not complicated Suzic- the biggest quandary is once you have all the hexagons, deciding how to place them. There can be so many variations.
The one I've just cut has more colour ways and shapes and will be a challenge to me to decide how to put it together to make the best arrangement! That's what makes it so interesting.
I find I am looking at big prints now - wondering.......

The books One Block Wonder and One Block Wonders Encore (the one I am using) explains what to look for. You need a sizeable repeat pattern, this fabric was 18 ins repeat.
The quilt (before borders) is approx 48" sq.
The bigger the pattern repeat the more variation of blocks you will get. I putting one together now which has a 24 ins repeat and more colours. You need six repeats of the pattern (plus I got an extra half metre for "whoops I cut it wrong" mistakes.

I LOVE OBW, kaleidoscopes or whatever you want to call them. The size of the pattern really does not matter, but may determine the size of the blocks. Check the size of the repeat, and then decide what size block you want. You can make larger or smaller blocks depending on how many lengths you cut from each repeat! They will all be different, and beautiful. Choosing fabric is the most difficult part of the process. Fabric with definite shapes works best as opposed to colors that blend into one another. I am going for the more bold colors now, but they are all so intriguing.
