I plan on making four for a good friend, and I hope she leave them out on the table. She is always using placemats and recently has started using round ones.

I've been dabbling in painting for years, but have gotten away for awhile (I love to sew too and tend toward using my time for that). But I hate to give up painting entirely. It's nice for a break.
