i'm going to ask you a bunch of questions because you should quilt it the way you want instead of me telling you what i'd do.
so think about these things and let me know what your thoughts are.....
i've found the best way to approach quilting is to determine the quilts use.
if its meant to be slept with and washed all the time the quilting should be minimal that way the quilt stays comfy.
if its meant to be a piece of art you can go over the top with the quilting because stiffness is not an issue.
the next step i take in the process is do you want to make the negative space (the black sections) pop or do you wish to keep it in the background.
then i look for long runs in the quilt - in this case the long runs are the colored sections. do you want to have them tie into each other with a long running design or would you prefer to treat them like a frame around the negative space.

I'm not so good at decided on how to quilt anything yet, (I tend to do just FMQ all over the quilt, so I'm no help)
I have to say though that this quilt is gorgeous!! You've done a beautiful job on it.

if it was my quilt (and it can be, you know) i would do a design or crosshatching inside all the black 'box' areas and 1/2 designs or crosshatching on the outside 1/2 'box' areas. i think the colored stripes are too variegated to try to follow each color. but they can be diagonally quilted in straight lines, say, three lines, 1" apart from each other, if the quilt is big enough, or two lines if it's smaller. or just follow the colored diagonals that are already there.
it's hard to be specific because we don't know the exact size.

Now, just not sure on how it would be best quilted. My Mom and I have our ideas, but you all are such a fantastic group, I'd really like your opinions on the quilting.

My first reaction was what has been mentioned, echo quilting in the black.
This has been commented on too, but there are considerations as to the use and all that will help determine the final outcome.
But if the decision is too difficult, I'd be willing to step in and adopt it! :D
Just want to add the quilt is stunning! Great job!
