I just recently learned to do Sashiko applique and embroidery and have fallen in love with it. Here are some of the projects I recently completed. I love the color and variety in designs I can achieve

    Wow!! That is too cool.

I grew up on the coast of Central California, near Monterey. My sister lives in Tracy and my brother lives in San Jose.
My gosh it's been at least 8 years since I was San Francisco. My favorite area on the coast is Half Moon Bay it's so pretty there.

    That's wonderful!
Now that you've learned sashiko, you can use this same stitch with a perle cotton thread or even a #10 crochet thread to handquilt a "big stitch" quilt. I use it all the time and often receive compliments on how neatly it adds to the quilt, especially when I use contrasting color thread and stencil quilting patterns.

Jan, can you post a picture of this? I would love to see how you use it.

    Jan,
That is a cool idea. I use the perle cotton and and candlelite sparkly threads on the shashiko, so those could also work on hand quilting a quilt.
