The first one is much more dynamic with lots of movement in it. The second one is nice but too predictable for my taste. As others have stated there are many possibilities for these blocks. Please let us know how it turns out :)

Another possibility you might want to try .... flip your blocks around so that the stripes match (different fabrics though) and the white space matches. You'll start with a solid block in the centre and come out in blocks around (on point) similar to the #1 version, just that it'll be continual. I know ... probably not explained well!
