Wow, lucky little boys! Those are really special quilts - love the elephants, but the denim one is so special with fabrics from the folks who love him in it.

We are expecting a new grandbaby January, but as the gender will be a surprise until he or she arrives, I'm not doing a lot of sewing - burp cloths and a faux chenille in blues and greens which are acceptable for a girl, while pink is not for a boy <-rolling eyes .

Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration!

How creative using the shirt for a darling little quilt. I just love it! Great job!

Love both your quilts. The denim patch one intrigues me. Did you just cut the denim patches and topstitch on a whole cloth? I just love the look.

I used the 'ticker tape idea' but with denim. I basted backing (pale yellow with blue flowers and grey and yellow ducks), batting and white cotton together with curved safety pins. Then starting from the middle out, hand basted with old bright coloured thread the denim bits to the top. I basted some, then when reasonably happy with that section, machined them on using white thread, leaving a little margin around the edge so it could fray. Fiddly, but a good 'in front of the TV' activity. I removed the coloured basting threads as I went and took out the curved pins along the way as well. When you are done with stitching the denim, all you have to do is bind and you're finished. I did fray the edges a fair bit before washing (just used an old darning needle), then tossed in the wash and put it through the dryer. It was highly experimental, but my DIL says she loves it and it has a really nice texture to it, which should be fun for Felix. For the label I just cut a heart out of denim and wrote my message with a pigma pen (I haven't used one before, so can't say whether that bit will work out).
