Those are absolutely beautiful!! I wish I was your much older niece. What kind of applique did you do on these? I want to learn to do applique and I am overwhelmed by all the different types of applique I read about. Maybe I have too much info. I seem to have that problem a lot lol. I should probably just pick one type and dig in. :P

these are beautiful. Were they kits?
Nope, not kits! The white one was a pattern my sister found, and the blue one was one I sort of made up using EQ6. We started that one with a panel (the part in the center) and then added the rest around it.

Thank you again for the wonderful comments!

It is needle turn applique. My sister signed us up for a class and we learned all the tips and tricks you can do. The best thing you can do to learn how is to take a class. Before you sign up, ask to see samples of the instructor's work. If it is perfect, she's the teacher for you. And then once you have the knowledge, practice, practice, practice! The old saying is true ,"Practice makes perfect!" I also checked out books from the library that had good pictures. Here is a link to Becky Goldsmith and Linda Jenkins book and DVD entitled Teach You to Applique the Piece 'O Cake Way. http://www.pieceocake.com/Books/dvd-learntoapp.html
I have another quilt I am working on that is all applique. I should have the top done in a week or two and then I will post a photo of it. It is one I am quite proud of. It actually is my oldest daughter's(Laura) wedding quilt--however, she and her husband will be celebrating their 10th anniversary next month. My sister and I started making wedding quilts a few years after my first two got married. I have since made my oldest son's wedding quilt and once I get Laura's quilt done I will be all caught up.

Thanks, Nelle, for all your tips. I am so impressed that you have done so much. I thought needle turn would be a great method to learn because I am thinking I could work on it while traveling. I have watched Ami Simms' videos and ordered her book. Her work is wonderful. I also have a book by Robyn Pandolph that takes you through steps. I'm going to follow the link you sent (thanks so much) and we'll see from there. I hadn't thought about taking a class, but that is a great idea and I think there is an applique guild that meets near here. I've just been too shy to go!
