Thank you all for your kind comments and support. BuzzinBumble, I do have a fancy sewing machine. I have the Bernina 830. Without it's jumbo hoop I could never have managed this project, as the cowboys just barely fit the hoop. I did digitize the characters and the stories, and the number of applique trims and thread changes to stitch them out was unbelievable. The fancy machine did the stitching. I have never mastered machine applique freehanded.

I found the pattern here in Atlanta somewhere, but you can order it at the following website. The name is POSSE. They have a lot of really cute applique patterns.
