I decided to use the blues/greens/purples that I have and make a quilt of all different mariner's compass stars. I am doing paper piecing and boy, it's time consumming. Just this quarter a block took me an hour and I would be doing 24 blocks. I have done foundation piecing before but not paper. It's basically the same except you leave on the foundation and it's easier to work with, IMO.

I'm just not sure about this.

Pam, that is really pretty and the more you do, the easier it will get. Keep at it and you will feel a real sense of accomplishment when you are done. (If you just get too sick and tired of making them, you can always make a wallhanging!!)

It's beautiful so far. I'd say if the rest looks as good as this one, it'll be well worth the time. I worked on pp'd hearts for a quilt for my mil. It took a lot of time to get the all done, but I loved the end result!

Thanks all. It seems overwhelming right now but I guess the only way anyone gets anything done is bit-by-bit. Maybe it can be my own BOM and have a goal of two blocks per month. That would be a half block per week.

How long did it take you to get the pp'd heart quilt done?

That is gorgeous.....the first one you do is longer but you get the hang of it and it will go faster ....just hang in there it will be worth it in the end! :-)

Its well worth the trouble as it will be beautiful when it is completed.

One tip I can share with you, our guild leader does alot of paperpiecing, and she always cuts all her pieces, and works on each block at the same time, adding each piece to each block, so you get into a rhythm, and she swears it goes much faster as you are repeating the same section each time it becomes easier to remember how to do it...does that make any sense lol!!

Yes, it sounds reasonable that doing the same piece on multiple blocks gets easier to do. Thing is, I'm doing 24 different blocks! :shock:

One thing I need to do is write the colors of each piece before I start. I decided on a color for each piece that's not what the picture of the block is so I had to keep thinking the whole thing again as I did each one to figure out which color it should be. Like piece 4 for section A in the picture is a blue and yellow stripe but on mine it's medium blue. The black in the picture is dark purple, the white is black on mine, etc.

I'll just bite the thimble and keep at it.
