Gosh! I just bought four layer cakes in order to make one of these.....two kona white and two prints. Now I'm scared to start it......I had planned to starch it good before cutting. Will this help?

I am so sorry for your problems but I had the very same problems. Starch was not a solution for the wonky squares because I always starch. I listened and watched the tutorial so many times until I could recite the instructions and I still had problems. I had to individually square each of the 9 squares of each block to make the blocks squared. The written instructions were published in their Block magazine, Issue 4, it was of the same instructions of the tutorial and did not help. I have been quilting for quite awhile and have not had problems even with advanced patterns, I love a challenge with each quilt I make but this one was ridiculous. The final project is beautiful but it made me think that my skills had regressed.

I've been thinking of making this quilt as it appeared to easy, but I believe I will have to do a couple sample blocks first. Sorry you had so much trouble with it.

i try to watch her videos a couple of times before I attempt to make something because I get so excited to try something new that I don't always get everything right the first time around. This proved especially true with the large tote bags she made out of a jelly roll. I've got it down now, but in the beginning, I was more than a little clueless! And I agree with you that if she can do it, we should be able to as well. LoL

I spray my cut fabric with lots of Best Press [both sides] to stiffen it up so it helps with the stretching out of problem.

it Should!.........do both sides of the fabric and press straight up and down, don't 'wiggle' the iron.

I just now tried this block and used the non-bias way of making HSTs. it worked great!!!! Love this pattern. Makes it look like I did a lot of little pieces, cutting and sewing, when in fact - I DID NOT! would like to make a whole quilt of this out of various scraps.
