    definitely a glove stretcher - go to ebay and put in glove stretcher, you'll find many kinds including this style. Amazing how many there are.

    I agree with Lesley, I think it is for stretching a glove or maybe even to mend a glove (as in darning egg).

    I agree. That was the first thing that popped into my head when I saw it. However, it's been a long time since I've seen

    I have a black metal one made in Chicago by Lemke Mfg with a patent date of 1910. It has Lennon's The Glove House printed on the handle. So along with the picture of the lovely wooden one in the museum I think it is confirmed that you mystery is solved.
    Has anyone made gloves? I have several patterns but I have never made a pair.

    didn't they place the curling irons in the lamp chimneys, too, to heat up? At least I have seen pictures of this.
