I love what you are doing and I am doing the following with a set of 6 blocks that are paper pieced in quarters, making 24 in total and it's helped no end compared to the first one that I just plodded away on.
If you strip piece the centre blocks of the rings first - you know that you will need 4 for each circle of each shade you are using - make a wof strip and then cut the number of pieces you need for each shade. If you did this for each of the shades of blue you are using, it might cut down some of the piecing. Cut the centre squares as a strip. To speed up the corner units, stitch all the white sides for the whole quilt, then the colour strips in lots of four, then the whites again, add the centre then do all the left sides in the same fashion. This should speed things up for you and save you having to cut thread all the time.

Thank you Capri I have just been doing something similar as I tried to work out a quicker way t o do my squares. I am trying to do two squares of the same colour each time as I find a fat qtr works for that so when cutting I am doing 8 corners at a time and then the rest of the squares to fit. Hope you can understand what I am saying. Thank you for your suggestion.
