    I think you finish the center just like you did the outside. Fold the petal in half and sew the top. Fold the bottom white part and sew. Trim, open and press and then you sew the whites to the petals. The white petals seem to be sewn to the colored petal while folded and then opened so the seam is in the middle underneath. It's hard to see in the picture, but the white part may be loose. Then it just overlaps the next one.

    What a cool pattern! I immediately saw it as a light yellow with a lighter medium blue sewn onto a dark midnight blue for a star of Bethlehem. Very inspiring block!
