It's neat that at least three people have used the term "beauty", which is certainly apt! I'm pretty sure it's a variant of the New York Beauty pattern. When they are in full circles they are sometimes called "sunbursts". In Barbara Brackman's America's Printed Fabrics 1770-1890, she mentions a sunburst quilt in the Smithsonian that dates to about 1840. I don't know anything specific, but it seems like an interesting lead. What a great find. Welcome to the board!

Just wanted to add that if you can get to one of the bigger quilt shows, they often have appraisers available. In Dallas the cost was about $45, as I recall from reading the brochure. I believe you had to register in advance to have an appraisal done at the show. The quilt museums, such as the ones in Lincoln, Nebraska or Paducah, Kentucky, probably also have information about where you could get a quilt appraised. It would be very interesting to find out more about your very unusual quilt. Also, if you have the name of the person whose estate this came from, that might be a hint to its provenance (but not necessarily, of course). I'm curious: What's on the back?
