I am working on a butterfly quilt using my grandmothers hankies.. I have some of it on the designer wall right now.. I am short a few hankies so I have to go out on a hunt.. I really like the needle work.. I was given lots and lots of embroidery thread and dh said I should use it. Now, after looking at yours I think it would be a great idea. My grandmother lived in Indiana and cherished her hankies right up until she passed in dec,2010. One of my grand daughters can't take her eyes off of it,, so I think I will make it known that she is to have it some day.. thank you soooo much for inspiring me to keep moving forward on this one..
I can't wait to see it finished !!!
again,,, thank you thank you thank you.

so far this is where I am at....

when I wrote about the needle work above,,,I am speaking of fabric whisperers beautiful crewel stitching..

Colleen, if you know you want it to go to a certain person already. Please put that info on the label in the back. That way years from now no one can claim you changed your mind or promised them too.

    Love it so far.

I like this. I have a box of hankies that was my grandmother's and I was thinking of doing something with them. Is there anything else, any other patterns to do with hankies? Are the butterflies just folded? I thought they were cut, or didn't you get there yet? Sorry.

That is a very good idea. Might save heartache later on. Oh, and love how your quilt is shaping up.

Some very pretty "butterflies to be" happening there! The blue fabric is really lovely. Look forward to seeing how you progress. As Kat said, include the name of your chosen grand-daughter on the label as the "future recipient"....as well as the story of how the butterflies came to be. This is such a great way of preserving special items. My friend (who doesn't quilt) has her Mother's hankies, I may just put one together for her.
