    Thank you all for the compliments and the name suggestions

    Marysewfun, it's just strips, 2" (unfinished) wide and the length of the block + twice the width of the strips. The embroidery blocks are 9" unfinished so I needed strips 2 x 12.5". The first seam is a partial one as you have to sew all strips around the block. The last part of that seam is the last seam you sew.
