Oh well, live and learn..I will keep you informed on how the quilt is coming along.
I think the book mentioned stay stitching if doing the other style without the separators. Maybe that would help in your situation.
If stay stitching pulls the bias cut fabric askew while you're stitching, you might also try taping strips of 1/4" masking tape just barely into the seam allowance. It should stabilize everything and then be removed after you've sewn the separators on. If you decide to try that, be sure to test first to see that it will come off easily. I know that painter's tape is wonderful but I don't think you can buy it as narrow as 1/4" and masking tape might be a bit too sticky, but is available in 1/4" width.

I think it's beautiful. Love the way it works with the sashing strips in between.

I'm making 2 now and the directions do not call for strips between columns. Directions call for trimming the sides (and stay stitch if desired) JUST before sewing the strips together because everything is on the bias.

Hmmmmm will have to think about strips though.

Thanks for posting - let us know when it's 'done marinating'.

I love your French Braid! Would you share with me how wide to cut the strips for French Braid, and how to get the small piece that looks like it lays on top?
I made a Pioneer Braid Border a couple of times. Looks like the Fr.Braid is the same except narrower pieces.
If you could give me a complete run-down I would appreciate it.
    thanks,Mariah

Mariah, thank you ... glad you like my French Braid. Each strip is cut 8-1/2 x 2-1/2 and the little square is cut 2-1/2" x 2/1/2. The "rundown" involves several pages in the book. There are some free FB patterns available on-line. Do a QB "search" and I think you will find some.
