Finally It's Done!

I created this quilt over 10 years ago for my son's graduation, the center squares are done by his great grandmother's and grandmother. One square is by my sister, his aunt, and the rest by me. I paid someone to hand quilt it for me and I was going to do the binding. My grandmother always used the backing for the binding by turning it back down to the front. The lady that did the quilting didn't give me enough to do this. So it sat in a bag for YEARS.....until I found this wonderful site that gave me the courage to finish it by the wonderful hints provided by all the members. My grandmother passed away several years ago, so I couldn't ask her, my other grandmother had a stroke not long after finishing her block, but she's alive and is 96 yrs old.
We have overcast Alabama skies, but please enjoy the pictures.
I am proud of it because of the grandmother's contributions to it. I can not replace it, all the living great grandmothers are in their 90's and my mom is in her 70's, my son and his wife better take care of it.

It is a wonderful quilt. I think you should include a letter when you gift it to ensure your son and DIL realize the family heritage and history that is in the quilt. You can not take for granted that they will cherish it as much as you obviously do, given it has so many generations of your family in it. Could not hurt to make them aware of that fact as well.
